The Opportunity

As the Senior HR Manager for Vancouver Island, you will lead the delivery of HR support to the region and act as the trusted HR partner to the Regional Vice President and Casino General Managers. The Senior HR Manager will be a strategic partner and thought leader for the regional business, playing a key role in working collaboratively with the business leaders to build short- and long-term people strategies. You are experienced in supporting a dynamic business and understand the complexities of working across multiple business and HR functions. As strategic HR business partner, this role will influence organizational design and effectiveness, lead the talent acquisition strategy, attraction and retention, coach and collaborate to develop a highly engaged team in partnership with the business and HR Shared Services Centre of Excellence (COE). In this role you will operate independently, using your business acumen, sound judgment, and initiative in partnering with the Regional leadership team and team members to achieve organizational objectives.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Human Resources – Canada West, this position will be based in the Victoria, British Columbia location.

The Role

  • Enable business results through consulting and coaching leaders on the design, implementation and evaluation of people solutions that contribute to the achievement of business unit goals and objectives.
  • Effectively provide consultation on organizational design and change readiness initiatives that position the Vancouver Island business for growth through operational effectiveness and building a high performing, diverse, and engaged workforce.
  • Manage labour relations for unionized employee groups and serve as the primary contact for all labour relations matters, including collective bargaining.E
  • Support the delivery of corporate programs in the areas of performance achievement, compensation cycles, talent development and succession planning in partnership with business leaders to create a high performing and engaged team.
  • Coordinate and/or conduct Leadership Development training programs for leaders.
  • Oversee all types of Leave of Absence cases, including the return-to-work program and process.
  • Partner with the HR COEs (Talent Acquisition, Labour Relations, Total Rewards, Leadership and Learning, HR Shared Services) to deliver high impact talent acquisition strategies, effective learning and development programs, and effective total rewards plans in order to drive business results and talent development, retention and attraction.
  • Provide ongoing coaching to leaders in HR programs, practices and processes; and as needed, to enhance their leadership effectiveness.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and partner to the business providing sound advice and counsel.
  • Ensure Human Resources policies, practices and procedures are consistent with applicable regulations, laws, and statutes applicable to each jurisdiction that the company operates within.
  • Partner with HR COEs to develop and implement HR policies, programs, systems, and internal communications to support the Vancouver Island business, including providing consultation, interpretation and application of Corporate Human Resources policies and procedures.  
  • Manage employee relations effectively, including leading workplace investigations.
  • Oversee the auditing of various team member reports for HR team members to ensure compliance with licensing, regulatory training requirements, and policies and procedures.

Your Skills and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 plus years' experience in a progressive Human Resources Generalist role.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in labour relations, including the administration of a collective agreement.
  • University degree or diploma in a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Designation as a Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) an asset.
  • Self-directed with excellent organization skills, able to multitask and thrive in a fact paced environment.
  • Goal oriented with strong business acumen, service mindset and able to react quickly and thoughtfully using good judgment.
  • Strategic thinker and thought leader who can dive into the details when required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships and collaborate with leaders and a complex set of stakeholders to drive organizational change.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex problems using data insights, identify trends provide balanced HR solutions.
  • Innovative with courage to try new ideas, make tough decisions and determine key opportunities.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing dynamics, embrace change, and thrive in ambiguity.
  • Expert in Office 365 suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to successfully obtain registration British Columbia Lottery Corporation.
