The Opportunity
As a key support to the regional leadership team, the Senior Manager, Labour Relations will provide leadership and guidance with respect to maintaining a positive labour relations environment while contributing to the attainment of business goals and objectives. Supporting all unionized locations in the province of British Columbia, this role works collaboratively with both union representatives and business leaders in order to administer collective agreements, resolve labour issues, lead collective agreement contract negotiations and maintain regular communication channels with all stakeholders to ensure all parties are kept abreast of any current issues or developments. To be successful in this role, the Senior Manager, Labour Relations will need to possess the ability to build rapport and form trusting relationships with stakeholders while exercising their leaderships skills, thorough knowledge of labour relations and problem-solving ability.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Human Resources – Canada West, this position has the option to be home-based in either the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, BC or the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver in Coquitlam, BC. Regular travel to the unionized sites will be required.
The Role
- Provide direction in the administration of all collective agreements within the province of British Columbia to ensure alignment with business plans and objectives.
- Engage in ongoing activities throughout the life of the collective agreement that facilitate constructive and effective union and management relations.
- Collaborate with regional leadership to develop collective bargaining strategy.
- Lead the collective bargaining process, including negotiations at the table.
- Ensure the company is prepared for collective bargaining by conducting research, costing proposals, defining mandates and drafting collective agreement language.
- Develop and deliver training to site management on labour relations and how to effectively manage in a unionized environment.
- Coach, mentor and provide any necessary tools or information to site management to assist them in managing unionized team members.
- Provide guidance and assistance to site management during disciplinary investigations.
- Coach and support Human Resources team on labour relations questions or issues.
- Manage all grievances and facilitate their timely resolution.
- Liaise with external legal counsel to prepare for and represent the Company at arbitrations and mediations.
- Remain current on labour relations matters by collecting and reviewing information such as case law, relevant precedence, arbitral jurisprudence and researching related documentation as required.
- Provide guidance and consultation to business leadership with respect managing change and organizational effectiveness in a unionized environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
Your Skills and Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years in a labour relations role or relevant management experience that includes collective agreement administration, grievance management, and union relations.
- University degree or diploma in a relevant discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Designation as a Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) an asset.
- Self-directed with excellent organization skills, able to multitask and thrive in a fact paced environment.
- Goal oriented with strong business acumen, service mindset, highly responsive; and able to react quickly and thoughtfully using good judgment.
- Strategic thinker and thought leader who can dive into the details when required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships with leaders and a complex set of stakeholders to drive organizational change.

- Serving It Right or the ability to obtain a Serving it Right Certification.
- The ability to successfully obtain a criminal record check through the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch.
